Privacy Policy
Your data belongs to you.
This policy explains how Bites collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Bites mobile app and related services.
Effective August 28, 2026
Information we collect
We collect information you choose to provide or create in Bites, including:
- Account information: your email address and identifiers associated with Apple, Google, or email sign-in.
- Profile and health-related information: the answers you provide to calculate a Bites budget, your food diary, favorites, recipes, and weight entries.
- Food information: foods and nutrition details you add, search for, or scan. A food saved with a barcode may be made available to other Bites users.
- Purchase information: subscription status and purchase entitlement. Payment details are processed by Apple or Google and are not received by Bites.
We may also receive basic technical information needed to operate and secure the service, such as request timestamps, IP address, device or app information, and error details in server logs.
Camera access
Bites requests camera permission only when you use the barcode scanner. Barcode recognition happens through the camera view; Bites does not use this permission to take or store photos or videos. You can deny or revoke camera access in your device settings and enter or search for foods instead.
How we use information
We use your information to:
- create and secure your account;
- calculate your budget and provide diary, recipe, weight, and food features;
- sync your information across sessions and devices;
- provide subscriptions and restore purchases;
- send requested sign-in links or codes; and
- maintain, troubleshoot, protect, and improve Bites.
We do not sell your personal information or use it for third-party advertising.
When information is shared
We share information only as needed to provide Bites, including with:
- Apple and Google, when you use their sign-in or in-app purchase services;
- RevenueCat, to manage subscription status and purchase entitlements;
- our email delivery provider, to send a sign-in link or code you request;
- USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts, to provide nutrition and packaged-food search results; and
- service providers that host or secure the infrastructure used to operate Bites.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transfer. We do not give third parties access to your private diary, profile, recipes, or weight history for their own marketing.
Storage, retention, and security
Account data is stored on our servers. On mobile devices, your authentication token is stored using the device's secure storage. Some unsynced inputs may remain locally on your device until they can be sent to Bites or you remove the app data.
We retain your information while your account is active and as reasonably necessary to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the service. We use reasonable safeguards, but no electronic system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Your choices and rights
You can export your logged diary information from the app. You can also delete your account from the Me screen; this permanently deletes the account and the personal data tied to it from active Bites systems, subject to limited legal or security retention. Deleting the app alone does not delete your account.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information. Use the support contact provided on the Bites store listing to make a privacy request.
Children's privacy
Bites is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us through the support contact on the Bites store listing.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Bites changes. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice where appropriate.

For privacy questions or requests, use the developer support contact shown on the Bites App Store or Google Play listing.
